Lead actor Irene Barnett learns about location of nuclear detonations in US (a frightening amount!) from a desert dweller, played by Denise Smith. Sign art by Marlon Schmidt.

Watching WELCOME TO SERENDIPITY is a good way to visit DEATH VALLEY JUNCTION, where famed NY ballerina, Marta Becket, gave her performances. She spent 5 years painting portraits of a fantasy audience on the walls of the deserted opera house, which soon became filled with real appreciative audiences. See The New York Times article on her life and work. Amargosa Opera House. And don’t on’t miss her appearance and real-life story she tells to the camera, in the posting of upcoming Feature Worhshops movie, MY BOUNTYHUNTER, (co-produced with son/cinematographer Morgan Schmidt-Feng).

I’ve enjoyed producing several Feature Workshops movies in Death Valley, including the two shoots for EMERALD CITIES (1979, 1982). Pictures of that shoot (by Julie Schachter) and the background story on the “making-of” are well documented in “NEW DARK AGES––HOW A Punk Movie EMERALD CITIES Got Its IMPROV.”
