Every so often I like to touch base with an experience I had in the late 1960s. While hanging around his small store just off Telegraph Avenue and 51st Street, getting to know an Italian grocer named Joe, I witnessed the extraordinary, unsung and unheralded) generosity of that mostly-silent elderly man, going about his days cloaked in a gruff manner, mostly silent, while making cheap sandwiches for locals. After a while I noticed that he handed out full grocery bags of food to other elderly Italians in the neighborhood whenever they dropped in, and never took any payment.
I love this story. And I can't help but think of President Joe, compared to coup d'etat connivers Elon and Don. I hope the country survives long enough to have an administration and Congress who agree with that Joe and your Joe: "Don'cha know, somebody's gotta do somethin' for this Country."
